Students On Ship Tossed By Giant Wave

This Video shows a soaked and paper-strewn lobby with furniture slamming into students, some of whom are screaming and tossed about like dolls. The MV Explorer had left Alaska and was headed toward the Koreas and Japan when it ran into very heavy weather. A 50-foot wave smashed the ship and disabled it last week. Several of its engines were knocked out. A member of the crew and a faculty member were injured. "The waves were crashing. There was a green glow to the waves. They were going over our window. They were hitting our windows and you just didn't know what was going to happen next," student David Welch said. Hours later, through e-mail, Justin's family in Leola learned about the trouble at sea. "He said it was incredible. They were just one command away from abandoning ship. At that point they had everyone assembled. They had moved the guys to the back in preparation for that. They were constantly briefing them on what to do," said Lynne Stoltzfus, Justin's mother. The Coast Guard and neighboring ships were signaled, and for a time there was little else to be done. Watch the Video Full Story From WGAL Semester At Sea Updates - Official Website
